Exodus 15:11
“Who is like You among the gods, O LORD? Who is like You, majestic in holiness,
Awesome in praises, working wonders?"
The display of the wonders of our God are all around us. How often do we fail to give our attention to His works of wonders, and overflow with praise at the sight of them? It takes intent to live the moments of our day noticing the oftentimes subtle demonstrations of His majesty and power. Yet, they are there.
We see His wonders in creation. The beauty of the universe was birthed out of His unlimited imagination, and set in place for our pleasure. For the first six days of creation, God meticulously planned every inch of the universe. When the time came for Him to place His crowning creation in the middle of it, He watched with delight as mankind discovered all His wonder-works with joy.
We see His wonders in His faithfulness. (Lamentations 3:22-23) For the first twenty plus years of my life, the prayer I prayed most often was: “God, please don’t give up on me.” I still pray that prayer sometimes, but not as often because I have come to embrace the Wonder of His faithfulness. It is too wonderful for me to understand His enduring faithfulness, His compassion and mercy that is new every morning. All I can do is surrender, and allow His faithful Love to wash over me like a refreshing stream. What a wonder!
We see His wonders when we witness a life transformed by the Presence of God. A drug addict being set free from addiction; an abused victim forgiving their abuser; a mind ravished by Alzheimer’s coming alive at the sound of His Word; a lost soul receiving Jesus Christ as Lord for the first time; an infant born with no hope of survival being healed, and the grateful tears of a mom and dad because of it. The list is endless for God is always displaying His wonders…The question is: Are our eyes opened to see them?
Psalms 72:18-19
Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel, Who alone works wonders. And blessed be His glorious name forever; And may the whole earth be filled with His glory.
Amen, and Amen.
“Who alone” in this verse is not emphasizing that He works alone, but that there is no one and no thing that works wonders as He does. His wonders are extraordinary; they are wondrously wonderful; they are a marvelously magnificent display of His nature.
I have begun a wonder journal. I leave my morning time with Him and go out into the world with intention. I am intent on beholding His wonders and praising Him at the sight and sound of them. I then journal of those wonders that drew my attention throughout the day. I expect to Behold His Wonders.
